Noryangjin Market
(Monday / 01:30)

Looking for fresh seafood in Seoul?

Here at Noryangjin Fish Market, there are plenty of stalls for you to choose from. It is not difficult to find the market from the train station. Just follow the crowd. Or the smell.

Some of the vendors here can speak Chinese! We also heard people greeting us in Thai but I am not sure if they can make a conversation with it..Regardless of the language, it is pretty easy to buy. Just point to the item you want and the vendor will tell you the price. As far as I know, fishes and crabs are charged by weight while shelled creatures and small sized octopus are charged by pieces.

And do not agree to the price straight away if you think it is negotiable! I bought a plate of mixed sashimi at 8,000won when he quoted 10,000won in the first place.

If you would like to devour your fresh goods straight away, just head into a restaurant at the market where they will prepare it for you at a price. They also charge the number of people going into the restaurant at 3,000won each.

It would also be good to confirm the price for preparing your food before they take it into the kitchen. :)

Day 1 - oysters, fish bone soup, sashimi

Day 2 - fish sashimi, octopus sashimi, steamed king crab, bbq-ed shellfish

Instead of throwing away the fish bone after the fish is sliced, the restaurant is able to make soup with it for you. Taste really good!

In comparison with Singapore, the seafood is really fresh and much more affordable! I ate so much on the second night and when we head back to the subway station through the market, I felt like puking due to the smell. I am skipping seafood for the next two day! This place is really worth your time even if you would like to just take a look. The vendors does not shoo you away even if you are just taking a picture of their large king crab!
