Gwangju & Damyang
(Sunday / 15:03)
31st - 3rd
I had my itinerary for Gwangju planned but I end up not following it because I was lost most of the time. It is a city with subway but most of the attractions are not near it.
31st
Stopover between Daegu and Gwangju. Pictures are not doing any justices to the place
Plan was to visit The Street of Art at Culture Complex station but I ended up spending the whole afternoon at Changjangno Street which is across the road. I was just following the crowd so I ended up at the shopping area.
It turned really cold at night and I had craving for fried chicken so I went into a HOF
Everyone else was having beer so why not! The chicken costs me 10,000won though D: But the ambience was pretty cool. A lot of small decorations and beer cans and they were playing some old english songs. When I came out of the restaurant it was drizzling and freezing!!
1st
The plan was to visit Gwangju Modern Historical & Cultural Visit located at Namgwangju Station but I got lost again hahaha I suppose it was located inside a neighbourhood so I made turns and turns with no directions shown on the streets.
However there were signs pointing towards Sajik Park, which was the next place I wanted to visit! I tried to follow but the place they pointed to turn was into a housing estate so I decided to fuck it. In the end I got back to the Cultural Complex station.
My lunch for the day~ Saw this pretty bakery in Changjangno Street. The bread were not exactly special though.
Constructions is still going on for the Asian Culture Complex but there were a lot of art and designs along the construction wall (I don't know the exact term for it). After that I found The Street of Art! or so I think. Shops with paintings and calligraphy were lined up along the street but most of them aren't open.
There were still a bit of time left before the sky turns dark so I decided to head to the World Cup Stadium near to the hostel. It was about 2km walk from the station I guess?
The weather was turning really chilly then. Took these pictures with the expense of my fingers dropping off due to the cold weather haha The sunset made the place look really magnificent and amazing!
2nd
Headed to Damyang to look at some bamboos with a hostel mate from Hong Kong. In the hostel there were a lot of Hong Kong citizens. Just when I was thinking about paying Hong Kong a visit...
Yes it is a park with bamboos! It would be a great place to go in Summer because apparently the bamboos here help to lower the surrounding temperature so if you want to take a break from the crazy heat, this is it!
And there were many couple carvings on the bamboos. Seriously they all have to leave their marks on places they can huh.
Just beside the bamboo park there is a place with old Korean houses. If only I had hanbok I would feel like a Korea princess taking a stroll along the pond!
The famous metasequoia-lined road is located just next to the park but we gave it a missed. I don't feel disappointed though because you can see those beautiful autumn leaves around quite a lot.
The next destination is called Slow City.
It felt like walking through the streets of Korea in the older days. I only need some assasin to jump from roof to roof to complete the look.
Most of the houses here are still occupied and some of them are turned into guesthouse. Would be cool to spend a night at a place like this! :)
There was another place we would like to go but the bus never came so we took the other bus back to Gwangju. Had our dinner at a restaurant next to the Gwangju station and they served so many side dishes!!
Only at Gwangju I was served so many side dishes!!
3rd
Took my bag to the KTX station (another one in Gwangju) because the hostel owner told me there were lockers there but no! Thankfully they allowed me to deposit it in the office ^^ Paid 7,700won for a trip to Suncheon. My first train trip in Korea!
Visited the Gwangju Biennale before leaving the city. I saw pictures online and thought it would be a interesting place to go
Art is really not my thing so I understood almost nothing. heh All I know was that some of the stuff are really cool. Like this gown hanging on rope.
